Mr. Lucas, a wealthy rice planter, was married to Charlotte Hune and they parented 10 children. The property changed hands several times since 1853 and was converted to a boarding house in the early 1980s.
Overflowing with charming southern hospitality this Circa 1853 historic home skillfully combines old and new, offering six beautifully decorated bedrooms with four poster and canopied beds. Known for its hearty full breakfast, The Cannonboro Inn is a place to be pampered, The aroma of fresh brewed coffee and home baked cinnamon muffins entice you to a delicious breakfast on the columned piazza, which overlooks the garden and fountain, or in the formal dining room. After breakfast you can tour nearby historic sites on complimentary bicycles, on foot or by a horse drawn carriage enjoying the historic holy city. |

Bud and Sally Allen purchased the property which was in much disrepair in 1990. Bud's skills as a builder, and Sally's as a decorator, came together to create a beautiful, warm and inviting Bed and Breakfast. They completely restored the house inside and out, installed new gardens and added brick walks, a fish pond and fountain. Barry Carroll now owns the
property.
The restoration took over a year and even though the home had suffered severely
from lack of maintenance, most of the original plaster medallions, plaster crown
moldings and beautiful heart pine floors were retained and restored to their original
state. |
The house is particularly noted for its 2 circular piazzas which feature 22 massive columns. The piazza provides an ideal setting for serving gourmet breakfasts
overlooking the country garden and fountain.
